Imperial Beach BBQ
While we were out in Imperial Beach Penzeys one sponsored a cookout at the motel that was used to film the HBO series "John From Cincinnati." For many viewers the highpoint of the series was the cookout that happened here in episode six. Over a meal of hotdogs and hamburgers John appears and explains much of what has transpired through the first five episodes, but also lets the viewers begin to understand that there is much more going on here than what is merely on the surface. It is a stunning scene on so many levels. Work that everyone involved with it should be exceptionally proud of.
For our cookout the friendly folks at Wildcoast were able to round up a cast of IB locals, many of whom appeared as extras in "JFC." There we met Rosa Adams who was in the third and eighth episodes, Katy Fallon from IB Coffee & Books which was the Internet Café, Jesus Beltran who played a neighbor in the seventh episode. We also met Fabrice and Nellie Gaunin from the Cow-a-bunga Ice Cream Shop who provided our dessert, the "John From Cincinnati" ice cream, after we were done feasting on beef, chicken and fish tacos along with delicious pico de gallo and Mexican fish soup. Good people, good food; we will not forget what we did here.
